Calorie postings

Author: Dani  //  Category: on the tube

Article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/06/nyregion/06calories.html?th&emc=th

Wow. I would like to see a counter-study on this one. Personal experience tells me that people who care about calories (or count calories) have a general educated idea of what is contained in certain foods. They understand fiber as a necessity. They consume fruits with piety. They exersize while watching meters and gauges surge, with goals of maintainence or weight loss at the forefront of reasons.

People, who don’t care, don’t care. Really, they don’t. if you told them that a burger contained 3 times the calories of lentil soup, they would pass you a polite nod. People who don’t care about calories find the facts irrelavent. Plus, if you don’t know how many calories you, personally, should be consuming in a day or meal… you could assume that the calories that you see on the menus are average or proportionate.

There seems to be a need of educating involved. Yeah, oprah needs to do the counter-poll because she would make it relevant, yes, she would.

Lust, greed, envy, and the 50 states

The seven deadly sins have been an inspiration to many artists throughout time. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_deadly_sins )Movies, comic books, paintings, and literature… I’ve even see a set of wine glasses. Article: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/mar/26/one-nation-seven-sins/

Now, demographers are getting involved and it’s funny what conclusions could be drawn after taking a peek.

Which state/sin correlations make you laugh?

Food certifications

Author: Dani  //  Category: i'm bored

So, I am more than mildly curious about this. It’s relevant because I’m ignorant. Anything that I don’t know intrugues me.  This topic, food certification, shows me that I really have no idea about what I’m eating or not. I know a lot of my perception is based on little research and more like advertising messages absorbed slowly over the past few years.
To make this more, explained… growing up I knew one family who bought into the whole-foods, organic mentality and lifestyle. Now, I know only a handful of families who aren’t at least partially convinced that their lack of cancer must be attributed to blueberry consumption.

Let’s go, right now

Life.

It’s not fair, it’s really not. Saying that it’s totally wrong and unfair doesn’t really change anything . Just as sheer acknowledging of a problem does nothing to correct the issue (although it may win you a Nobel Peace Prize).

So there’s this situation

(elephant in the room)

and everyone knows this happens.

It’s the church/work/family dynamic. The average church has 2-3 services per week. They also have Sunday school, youth group, bible studies and fellowship meetings. The average working man or woman is required to spend at least 40 hours per week at their job.

It’s usually more due to recession cutbacks.

There is an expectation for people to be involved in everything that can possibly apply to their family, yet, they are also expected to be spending quality time with their family. This would include activities such as, family devotions, family prayer and family meals.

So, there are 168 hours per week.

That number seems exasperatingly  small for a whole week, doesn’t it?
